The main aim of the research is to develop a strategic decision making methodology that will guide organisations in the planning for effective collaborative working practices and the implementation of suitable tools and techniques. The associated objectives are:

1) Review state of the art collaborative working with a focus on both practices and technologies

2) Conduct a requirements capture survey for collaborative working in construction at three different levels; organisational, project and end users, and identify key areas for improvement in collaborative working

3) Develop a methodology and tool for the planning and implementation of effective collaborative working taking into account both the organisational business process and the project lifecycle.

4) Test and validate the methodology within the organisational context

5) Develop a prototype software for one of the key areas in collaborative working

6) Test and validate the prototype within a project context.
